Surrendering to God – How Hard It Is

My younger days of hard-headedness make surrendering to #God so difficult. It’s not that I haven’t put my #trust in God many times. The times I have, he’s rewarded me with a son, a great place to live, a great parish and wonderful men to grow in faith with. But when it comes to my livelihood, surrendering to God has definitely been a struggle.

I’m not naive enough to realize that fear is at the heart of my struggle. What if I don’t succeed? Will the bills get paid? What will we have to sacrifice? How will I feel if it doesn’t work out? If I heard Him incorrectly?

What if I do succeed? The responsibility. The change that will come. The tests of my character. The mistakes I’ll make along the way. How much time will I need to spend away from family?

The doubts are there also. I don’t have the skills. I’m too lazy. I won’t follow through. I’ll go too far in the wrong direction and have nothing to show for it. Nobody will listen to me. For so long, all these things have kept me from starting.

God has been leading me away from my present career little by little for awhile now. He’s been showing me things along the way. I’ve worked with Him some and fought with Him other times. Many changes need to be made, for the changes He wants to become reality. The biggest are inside me.
