Greetings From Mexico!

We’re more than half way through our trip to Mexico. Time to reflect on the events and feelings associated with a week spent in “paradise.” The quotes are there because it’s a secular paradise. To make any meaningful comparisons to our final destination as children of God would be blasphemy, in my humble opinion.

I regret not attending Mass last Sunday. I believe we resigned ourselves to this fate far too early on. Safety concerns of being off the resort were nothing more than an excuse. What commitment we could have shown to our faith. Surely the Lord would have His will be done and have kept us free from harm if he so wished. And if not, would it be so bad to become martyrs for our God.

Yeah, I got serious there but these are serious times when Catholics need to step it up and live their faith more than they ever have. Starts with me and my family. We will be back here someday and we will do better. This Lord, we promise.

The scenery is beautiful, the weather fantastic and the relaxation at an all time high. It’s been great spending this time with my family. It’s also been a spiritually beneficial trip. I was called to read the works of Eckhart Tolle a few days before leaving for the resort. I checked a couple out of our fine county library and I’m so glad I did.

Each morning, I’ve taken some personal time to read and reflect. I’ve gained greater understanding of how God reaches us in a number of different ways. To limit our discovery to just scripture is to fail to see others who God has inspired. More on what I’ve learned in another post.

Today has been a wonderful day. Jennifer and I enjoyed some precious couple time with Jack being cared for by the resort’s outstanding kids’ club. We talked together, ate together, swam together and relaxed together. What more could I ask for.

We’ll come together as a full family soon for dinner and entertainment. Coming together has been a constant in my mind on this trip. I long for more connection with my fellow guests but I struggle with introversion. It’s easy to abandon my connection with God, through my morning prayers. I admit I’ve forgotten to start my morning right just as much as I’ve remembered. I know I will be back and I look forward for the opportunity to grow and connect more with many people here.

I hope next time we come we can bring another family with us as well. I pray we have the resources one day to give a trip to this resort to a deserving family in our parish.

God bless,
