Dems Tailspin As They Realize The Hostile Socialist Takeover Already Started

Less than a week after Democratic socialists swept several races in New York’s primaries, the memo appears to have gone out to the more moderate Democrats: the socialists aren’t just coming, they’re already here.

Three candidates backed by New York City’s Democratic socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani won their respective primaries on Tuesday — and two of them defeated incumbent Democrats to do it — but the one raising the most eyebrows is Darializa Avila Chevalier.

Avila Chevalier, now the Democratic nominee for New York’s 13th Congressional District, is a card-carrying member of the Democratic Socialists of America who doesn’t believe murderers should go to prison — ever — and refers to American military veterans as “war criminals.” She wants all police abolished, would cut the defense budget to $0, and referred to former President Joe Biden as a “rapist.”

Despite their desire to take back control of the U.S. House of Representatives in November, Avila Chevalier appears to be making some more moderate Democrats very uncomfortable — and they’re doing everything they can to put as much distance as possible between Mamdani’s chosen few and the Democratic Party writ large.

Meghan Hays, who served as an adviser to both former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden, told Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum that she was “frustrated” by the fact that no one in the party appeared to be standing up to the obvious threat of takeover.

“What is really frustrating to me as a Democrat — and I know I’m very moderate — but why aren’t people in the party standing up to these folks?” she asked. “Why aren’t more people endorsing? Why aren’t people saying, in these purple districts that are super important to take back the majority of the House and even have a chance in the Senate, ‘We won’t stand for this?’”

“And you’re not seeing a lot of it. I think everyone’s just like, ‘Oh, we’ll just stand back and let it happen.’ And that is, I think, the biggest problem with our leadership that we have. Folks need to stand up or they will take over,” she said of the fringe Left, asserting that they were “not Democrats.”

Liberal attorney and Harvard Law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz also argued that the democratic socialists were not Democrats — but were pretending to be for the purpose of winning elections and gaining access to power.

“If the Socialists pretend to be Democrats — and if the Democrats welcome them in — then they’re gonna win elections on the basis of fraud. This is pure and complete fraud on the voters — and shame on the voters who fall for it!” he said.

Comedian and HBO host Bill Maher also tried to draw a clear line separating “Mamdani’s people” from the rest of the Democratic Party. Referring to Avila Chevalier as the Woke Mind Virus’s “Patient Zero,” Maher claimed that she and the others claiming the “Democratic socialist” label were “very different” from everyday Democrats.

“What happened is for years we’ve been asking young people to vote. Well, now young people are voting and they are voting to abolish the police, abolish prisons, unlimited immigration, so no cops, no prisons, no borders,” Maher said, joking that it was all proof “that eating Tide pods does cause brain damage.”

Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville took a more antagonistic stance, saying that not only did the Democrats need to keep the socialist wing of the party from taking over, but that he’d prefer they be ejected from the party entirely.

“I don’t have anything in common with Ms Chevalier, and I really don’t want to be in the same party she’s in,” he told Fox News host Kayleigh McEnany. “This is a bridge too far.”

Fifteen Democratic House members and candidates have signed on to the Promise to America, a pledge to promote capitalism and more traditional American ideals over socialism and abolishing police.

Governor Josh Shapiro (D-PA) called the Democratic socialists out directly, telling CNN anchor Dana Bash that there was a lot of daylight between “performative” politics, “platitudes,” and slogans and actual effective governance.

In addition to concerns about whether or not the Democratic socialists were prepared to govern, “The View” host Sara Haines worried that their more extreme policy positions would be a “gift” to Republicans going into the midterm elections. If a candidate like Avila Chevalier called for abolishing police and referred to military veterans as “war criminals,” it wouldn’t be long before all Democrats were fending off claims that they too believed in such extreme policies.

“We’re writing the commercials pretty much for the GOP. The Democrats are literally just teeing up exactly how EVERY Democrat is gonna be framed!” she said.
